Sandpoint SLIP & Garfield Bay lateral inspections

Selling in Sandpoint? The city wants a video of your sewer line before you close.

Sandpoint's Sewer Lateral Improvement Program (SLIP) requires a camera inspection of your private lateral when you sell, when you pull a big permit, and sometimes when the city traces groundwater or roots getting into the system back to private lines like yours — what they call inflow and infiltration. We've done many of these over the years — filmed, documented, and submitted the way the city wants it.

When SLIP applies to you

Three ways you end up needing a lateral video

You're selling

Any building more than 5 years old needs a passing lateral inspection on file before the sale. No current inspection, no clean closing — and title companies and agents in Sandpoint know it.

You're building

Pulling a building permit over $25,000 on a structure more than 5 years old triggers the same requirement. Get the video before your project schedule depends on it.

The city calls

When the city inspects a sewer main and finds excessive groundwater getting in, every suspect lateral on that main can be directed to inspect. The letter comes to you either way.

How it works

The process, the way the city wants it done

1

We film your lateral

Camera inspection from the building to the city main — the full run, not a partial. Every foot recorded, every finding time-stamped.

2

We submit it right

The video goes to the city's SLIP desk with the Participant Information Form, and we coordinate wastewater operator scheduling where the job calls for it. We've done this enough times to know exactly what they want to see.

3

You get a straight answer

The city issues results within about 10 business days. Pass — you're done, and the inspection stays good. Fail — you get 90 days to repair, and we'll tell you honestly what the footage shows, because we don't bid the repair.

A failed lateral must be repaired within 90 days of the city's letter (extensions up to 10 months are available; a $50/month fine accrues past the deadline and is waived if you finish inside the extension). Any contractor with a Sandpoint business license can do the work — and because we never bid repairs, we'll act as a straight-shooting liaison between you, your contractor, and the city at no extra charge.

Garfield Bay

Garfield Bay Water & Sewer District — we know the drill there too

The Garfield Bay Water & Sewer District runs its own private-lateral requirements alongside its collection system rules — and like Sandpoint, the district cares about groundwater getting into its system through aging private lines.

We've worked Garfield Bay lateral inspections for years: filming to the district's expectations, coordinating scheduling directly with the district's operators, and getting owners a clean submission the first time. If you've received a letter from the district or you're selling in the Garfield Bay area, call before you guess at the requirements.

The advantage is the same in both places: we're inspection-only. A failed lateral is a finding in your report — never a bid in your mailbox.

SLIP questions we get every week

How fast can you get me scheduled?
Tell us your closing date or permit timeline when you call — SLIP jobs are deadline work and we schedule them that way.
How long is a passing inspection good for?
A passing inspection stays on file with the city — buildings aren't required to re-inspect more often than every five years. If you're not sure whether the property has a current passing inspection, the city's SLIP desk can tell you, or ask us and we'll help you find out.
What does a SLIP inspection cost?
SLIP lateral inspections start at $250, including the recorded video and submission. Exact number before we schedule.
My lateral failed. Now what?
You have 90 days from the city's letter, extensions are available, and any contractor with a Sandpoint business license can do the repair. We'll walk you through what the footage actually shows and deal straight with your contractor — we have no dog in the repair fight.
